May 19 - Snyder to Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon - It had finally cooled off when I got down into the canyon at Caprock Canyons State Park but it was still hot and humid when I came back out and very windy on the drive from Caprock Canyon to Palo Duro Canyon although it cooled down again in Palo Duro canyon. We started off on Haynes River Overlook Trail (B) and then looped back around on Upper Canyon Trail (C). After several more ranches, you will begin to see Caprock in the distance. It does not mean private. They have a heard of buffalo just wandering around the park…it’s amazing!! Every time we saw the buffalo (which was basically every morning and afternoon) we’d pull over and just watch them for a few minutes. Pretty but not nearly as pretty and way more remote than Palo Duro. This makes for an easy day trip from the city. I put it together. Sites with electric, water, fire rings, and covered picnic tables. Lake Theo offers no-wake boating, fishing and swimming. Heading west will bring you to the town of Canyon, but for this road trip, head east for Palo Duro Canyon State Park (H2). Go straight!! Kids enjoyed seeing the herd.
